Putah Creek Winery Launches Give Back Tuesday
January 25th, 2015, Davis, Calif. --
Putah Creek Winery Joins the Worldwide #GivingTuesday Movement
To Encourage Buying Wine With A Purpose Every Tuesday
DAVIS, CA—Local Davis-based winery, Putah Creek Winery, will soon be hosting a fundraiser in their Downtown Davis tasting room (110 F St, Suite D) every Tuesday from 4-7PM. The winery joins the 27,000 other partners in 68 countries in the # GivingTuesday movement. #GivingTuesday, a first of its kind effort that harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—raised an estimated $45.68 million on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Putah Creek Winery is expanding on this idea to make every Tuesday a giving Tuesday.
Since 2004, Putah Creek Winery has proudly donated wines to charitable groups and events that enhance the vitality of our Davis community. Starting this February, in collaboration with #GivingTuesday, the winery commits to donating 15% of their total wine bottle sales made on Tuesdays to selected non-profits. The first non-profit recipient will be Yolo County CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates. Yolo County CASAs are trained and court-appointed volunteers who build relationships with their “CASA kids” and advocate in court on behalf of these abused children and at-risk youth. Among the winery’s other selected participating non-profits are: Yolo Arts, Yolo County Crisis Nursery, Davis Schools Foundation, Putah Creek Council, Yolo County Hospice, and Freedom From Hunger.
“I hope our Give Back Tuesday initiative can show that a small business like ours can have a positive impact on our community by bridging the goals of local non-profits and its donors,” says Jessica Chin Foo, the winery’s managing partner, who previously worked as the Africa Asia Program Associate to Davis-based, international development organization, Freedom From Hunger. “Tuesday is a good day for giving, just like any day.”
This year, worldwide #GivingTuesday will be December 1st, 2015. The winery hopes other regional businesses will join the movement. “#GivingTuesday is a counter narrative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday because it reminds us that the spirit of the holiday giving season should be about community and not just consumerism,” said Kathy Calvin, CEO of the UN Foundation. “The most meaningful gift we can give our children, loved ones, friends and neighbors is the commitment to work together to help build a better world.”
How the Winery’s Program Works
Putah Creek Winery will select an organization to sponsor each month. That organization will receive fifteen percent of the winery’s Tuesday bottle sales at the end of the month. Selected non-profit organizations must:
-Serve our geographic area (20-mile radius of Davis).
-Demonstrate fiscal and administrative stability.
-Operate as an equal opportunity employer (where applicable).
-Be governed by a Board of Directors (where applicable).
The winery’s recipients will not include individuals; organizations without 501(c)(3) status; Political Action Committees, political candidates, or causes or organizations attempting to influence legislation or fraternal or alumni organizations.

About Yolo County CASA – Court Appointed Special Advocates
A passionate and powerful voice – A Court Appointed Special Advocate is a specially trained and supervised community volunteer, appointed by a judge. CASAs make a difference in the lives of abused and neglected children by working with the parties and monitoring cases involving children in foster care. CASAs usually advocate for only one or two cases at a time, allowing ample time to gather thorough information. They build relationships with their "CASA" kids, spending time with them, gathering facts about their life so they can report back to the judge who can then make a much better decision as to what is best for the child.
