Garba Wine Company Acquires Putah Creek Winery
February 20th, 2014, Davis, Calif. -- Garba Wine Company, LLC, a new wine company founded by Diego Barison and Jessica Chin Foo, launches today with the full acquisition of Putah Creek Winery. Based in Davis, California, Garba Wine Company, LLC is a winery that will specialize in indigenous European grape varieties. It is the latest venture of Italian grape nursery owner Diego Barison; French U.C. Davis alumnus, Jessica Chin Foo; French businessman Richard Chin Foo; Italian Pizzaiolo, Fabrizio Cercatore; Italian Engineer, Pietro Giordano; Spanish Economist, Daniel Diaz; and American Businessman Victor Basulto.
Putah Creek Winery, the first wine brand in Davis, California, began with the winery’s commitment to producing local wine from local grapes using environmentally friendly farming techniques. Garba Wine Company LLC is planning to expand the current wine production and will open a tasting room in Downtown Davis at 110 F Street for Putah Creek Winery.
Putah Creek Winery founders Gene & Cathy Glaeser will continue to farm and supply grapes to the winery for Putah Creek Winery estate wine products. “Gene is not only a good friend but also an amazing farmer; his grapes are of outstanding quality.” said Diego Barison. “We’re proud to have Putah Creek Winery stay true to its roots and remain a local Davis winery.”
The Glaesers employ Integrated Pest Management practices, use cover crops to minimize runoff and encourage water infiltration and beneficial insects, and use drip irrigation so as to not use excess water and electricity. They also utilize soil and tissue analysis to avoid over-fertilization, and use “green chemistry” pesticides whenever possible. They have installed owl boxes to encourage owls to nest and provide rodent control, and have planted an insectory around the perimeters of the vineyards as habitat for beneficial insects.
Garba Wine Company, LLC is dedicated to building strong California wine brands in the global marketplace. “For Garba Wine Company, Putah Creek Winery is the catalyst for the introduction of the culture of wine in a city that is academically renowned globally in Enology and Viticulture,” said Jessica Chin Foo.
Diego Barison is an active player in California grape production. Born into an Italian wine family present in the Piemonte, Italy, area for over a century, he is passionate about wine. He has a proven track record in wine production, making his own Barolo, managing his grape nursery and consulting with various wineries on their grape supplies. “Garba Wine will bring another dimension to the wine industry with Diego’s expertise and emphasis on the sourcing of quality grapes and production of top shelf California wines” commented Jessica Chin Foo.
Jessica Chin Foo is from Tahiti French Polynesia, and is from a family of serious serial entrepreneurs. Her great-grandfather was an industrialist and a banker. He opened the first bank in French Polynesia in the early 1920s. Her grandfather also established his own farm, a coconut oil plant, and invested in the first brewery in the Pacific. Jessica's mother founded and manages her own travel agency. Over the past decade, Jessica has worked in French trade, renewable energy politics, international development, art, and yoga. “Jessica’s dynamic leadership and talent for business development present an unlimited potential for Putah Creek Winery and for additional brands we develop in the future” said Diego Barison.
